How Do I Complete the Program?
The JD/MBA dual degree program offers options for admission and program completion depending on your undergraduate background and/or level of business experience.
Business Experience/Undergrad Degree
If you have an undergraduate degree in business or economics or have at least two years of business experience, you are eligible for the three-year JD/MBA program, which offers two options for completion:
Three-Year JD/MBA Program Option 1: Part-Time MBA Coursework Between First and Second Year
- Apply to the Beasley School’s full-time JD program, indicating JD/MBA in item 18, and the Fox School’s Part-Time MBA simultaneously
- Notify the Beasley School’s assistant dean for academic affairs that you are applying to the Three-Year JD/MBA program
- Upon admission, take STAT 5001 from the Fox School of Business the summer before starting your JD.
- In the summer between your first and second year of your JD, complete six credits of MBA coursework.
- Take 21 credits of business-related law courses plus business writing
- Complete 21 credits of business-related law courses plus business writing—applying credits across each program:
- 16.5 credits of the JD apply to the MBA
- 15 credits of the MBA apply to the JD
Three-Year JD/MBA Program Option 2: Part-Time MBA Coursework Between Second and Third Year
- Apply to the Beasley School’s full-time JD program
- During the fall semester of your first year in law school, attend the presentation on the JD/MBA program and meet with the Beasley School’s assistant dean for academic affairs
- Apply to the Fox School Part-Time MBA after meeting with the Beasley School’s assistant dean for academic affairs
- In the summer between your second and third year of law school, take six credits of MBA courses
- Complete 21 credits of business-related law courses plus business writing—applying credits across each program:
- 16.5 credits of the JD apply to the MBA
- 15 credits of the MBA apply to the JD
No Prior Business Experience/Undergrad Degree
If you do not have at least two years of business experience or an undergraduate degree in business or economics, you must take the four-year JD/MBA program.
Four-Year JD/MBA Program: Full-Time MBA
- Apply to the Beasley School’s full-time JD program
- During the fall semester of your first year in law school, attend the presentation on the JD/MBA program and meet with the Beasley School’s assistant dean for academic affairs
- Apply to the Fox Full-Time MBA after meeting with the Beasley School’s assistant dean for academic affairs
- Complete 21 credits of business-related law courses plus business writing—applying credits across each program:
- 13.5 credits of the JD apply to the MBA
- 12 credits of the MBA apply to the JD
How Many Credits Apply Between Programs?
- Three-Year JD/Part-Time MBA program:
- Count 16.5 credits of your JD coursework toward your Fox MBA.
- Count 15 credits of your coursework from the Fox School of Business toward your JD.
- Four-Year JD/Full-Time MBA program:
- Count 13.5 credits of your JD coursework toward your Fox MBA.
- Count 12 credits of your coursework from the Fox School of Business toward your JD.
What Are the Admissions Criteria?
- For the three-year JD/MBA program: you must have at least two years of business experience or an undergraduate degree in business or economics.
- You must apply to the Beasley School’s JD program and the Fox School’s MBA program separately, as each school makes it admissions decisions separately
- LSAT must be taken as part of your JD application
- GMAT must be taken as part of your MBA application
