Biography

Dr. English has served as a professor for over 20 years creating and teaching courses designed for students at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional level. His experience in higher education has included teaching internationally in Prague for Texas Tech and The UAE with the University of Abu Dhabi. He received his PhD from the University of South Carolina, MBA and undergraduate degrees from Va Tech and has earned the right to use the (R) Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation of the CFA Institute. In addition, Dr. English has designed and delivered courses in a number of professional education programs including the South Carolina Banking School and the Southwest Banking School. Dr. English has also maintained an independent consulting firm, PE II, LLC specializing in finance instruction, training and consulting. PE II, LLC has created programs covering such topics as quantitative methods of investment analysis, the valuation of mortgage servicing rights, asset and liability management for financial institutions, credit analysis and credit risk management, counterparty credit risk assessment, and the relationship between financial institutions and the legal environment from the finance standpoint.

Dr. English’s primary research focuses on the performance assessment of mutual fund managers and the impact of the legal and regulatory environment on mutual fund performance and survival. An additional line of inquiry has focused on the performance of equity markets as a function of the differing legal foundations for the countries in which the markets exist. Finally, Dr. English has a stream of research examining the role of large institutional investor monitoring on firm governance and performance.
