Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council

Deepening Our Commitment

The Fox School of Business is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. As part of our Strategic Plan 2025, we identified Inclusive Culture as a key pillar to guide us forward.

We aim to be a place where all members of our community can grow, develop and thrive in their careers. In the recruitment, development and retention of our faculty and staff, we also prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion to ensure that everyone is part of a positive, open-minded and respectful environment.

The Fox School and the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) Diversity Equity and Inclusion Council provides an internal-facing formalized structure to ensure DEI values, practices and policies are integrated into every aspect of the culture.

Mission

The Fox and STHM Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council (DEI) will advocate for the integration of diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of our workforce, student body, curricula, operations and culture. We are committed to creating an environment built on transparency, trust and respect by valuing differences, encouraging meaningful discourse and hearing all perspectives from our community. We will sustain an open dialogue with leadership and all stakeholders to support a culture where all individuals feel safe through transparency and accountability. Together we intend to educate, advocate and facilitate programs and initiatives that align with the Inclusive Culture pillar of the Fox Strategic Plan.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Definitions

Diversity

At Fox and STHM, diversity means accepting and respecting the different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives of everyone in our community. These differences may include: age, race, color, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, ability, political affiliation, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, veteran status, and all other characteristics that make each person unique.

Equity

The Fox School and STHM define equity as creating opportunities and access for each person in our schools to grow, contribute, and develop, regardless of their identity or status. Ensuring equitable and fair practices includes an on-going process to identify areas where barriers and biases may exist, dismantling them, and reconstructing the system with integrity and transparency.

Inclusion

The Fox School and STHM define an inclusive culture as one that intentionally cultivates an environment where everyone is welcomed, respected and appreciated. This foundation supports a community where each person feels they belong and are safe to be their full, authentic selves.

Educate

Provide ongoing targeted training sessions, resources and programs to educate the Fox and STHM community on the moral imperative and complexity of developing and sustaining a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture.

Advocate

Lead initiatives that promote diversity, improve equity and encourage inclusion of all members of the Fox and STHM community with a focus on supporting historically marginalized individuals.

Facilitate

Serve as a liaison between the Fox and STHM community and leadership to support open and honest dialogue regarding diversity, equity and inclusion. The council will make recommendations for internal processes and guideline implementation by collecting and presenting data (i.e. periodic surveying, focus groups, town halls, etc.) to the leadership to inform decision making.
