Over time, government opposition to marijuana in the U.S. has waned. After the 2020 U.S. election, there are now 15 states nationwide that have legalized the drug recreationally.

Despite these state legalizations, the cannabis industry still faces challenges at the local level including laws restricting marijuana operations and zoning boards which limit access to land for marijuana companies.
