Artificial intelligence promises to make healthcare more efficient—if health law can keep up

Jul. 5, 2022

Samuel Hodge Jr. finds that new Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology can enable doctors to spend less time on each procedure, reduce human error and stay up-to-date on the latest medical research. However, many patients do not trust a machine to make important decisions about their health. Furthermore, AI does not provide recommendations that take into account non-medical human considerations.

Critically, no legal standard has been established for how doctors should use AI. Medical and legal professionals should keep up to date with the latest legal proceedings informing standards of AI use in healthcare.
